4.08 – Confined Space
POLICY
Griffin Properties Ltd. will ensure all confined spaces at the worksite are identified, and that no entry is permitted without meeting all requirements of OHS Regulation -Part 9.
PROCEDURE
General
- Confined space means an area, other than an underground working, that
- a) is enclosed or partially enclosed
- b) is not designed or intended for continuous human occupancy
- c) has limited or restricted means for entry or exit that may complicate the provision of first aid, evacuation, rescue or other emergency response service,
- d) is large enough and so configured that a worker could enter to perform assigned work
- Access to confined spaces will be eliminated where practicable; where not practicable, the confined space will be clearly marked with the words “Do Not Enter”, or by using “Danger” tape.
- Without signed, written permission from the site supervisor or designate, all confined space entry is prohibited by any person(s) at the worksite including but not limited to:
- a) employees, supervisors
- b) contractors
- c) visitors/public
Entry
- Prior to any worker entering a confined space, an initial hazard assessment and site-specific procedure will be completed in accordance with OHS Regulation 9.9. (Hazard Assessment)
- All findings and subsequent planning results will be documented and posted at all entrance points; expired site-specific procedures will be filed in the safety file box.
- Only authorized personnel who have been designated, listed on the site specific procedure and adequately trained are permitted to enter into any confined space.
Training
- All employees will receive documented, onsite training of the following:
- a) policy and procedure
- Employees required to enter a confined space will receive practical, hands-on training by a qualified instructor.
